Code of Conduct and Match Play Rules
Code of Conduct and Match Play Rules
Code of Conduct
- Tennis, whether played professionally or recreationally, demands the highest respect and regards both on and off the court.
- Remember the purpose is to build skills/sportsmanship.
- Spectators are welcome at all games, but please exhibit game sense while the game is in play. Both players and spectators are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and conduct. Please maintain silence during active play. You can cheer for good shots at the end of the point but minimize disruption to the play.
- Line calls - only players will call. Not parents, not spectators. It is a good practice and will help the players match temperament if parents do not interfere.
- Service in/out or side line/base line in/out is a call by the player on that side of the court. Opponent can ask "are you sure?" but if the original call doesn't change, accept that and continue the play.
- If bad calls are being made repeatedly, the two parents can explain the rules again to the player and caution them. When in doubt, the opponent gets the benefit of the doubt. If the ball appears to touch the line, it's IN.
- Players should call the scores loud enough to be heard by the opponent each time.
- Coaching is permitted only at the end of each set. It may be tempting to coach in-between and try to win points, but that is not good for kids in the long run.
- Any disputes regarding points need to be resolved between players on the court and NOT Parents. Follow USTA rules regarding points disputes.
League Format
- Only singles matches in a round robin format. No Doubles matches.
- League is gender neutral. Girls may sometimes be playing against boys.
- For each match, one player will be designated Home and the other player will be Away. Home team will book the courts and bring the ball can.
- Green Dot:
- There are 2 levels - Beginner and Intermediate.
- Beginner has 1 group and it is round robin play. Each player will play 5 matches. Top 2 finishers will play final for trophy. Due to the number of kids in the group, there may be repeat rounds. The intent is to provide 5 matches.
- Intermediate has 2 groups. Each group will have round robin play and top 2 finishers in each group will play in finals for trophy.
- Regular:
- There are 3 levels - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
- Beginner has 2 groups. It is round robin play. Each player will play 5 matches. Top 2 finishers will play final for trophy.
- Intermediate has 3 groups. It is round robin play in each group - 5 matches per person. Group winner (3 players) from each group + the best second place finisher (1 player) across all 3 groups will play Semifinals and winners of Semifinal will play in finals for trophy.
- Advanced has 1 group with 8 players. Each player will play 5 matches with randomly selected opponents. Top 2 finishers after 5 matches will play in finals for the trophy.
Match Rules
- There are 5 rounds of play with 1 week to play each match. It is best if each match is completed in that week. But we understand sometimes it is not possible so do your best to complete them the following week.
- There are no make up weeks. So if the play is not completed by the end of 5 weeks, those incomplete matches will be considered forfeited and awarded 0 points for both players and standings will be based on that.
- Week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.
- The home player parent should initiate timing discussions and do the court bookings with the away player/parent. It is perfectly acceptable for the Away parent to initiate this also.
- The home parent is responsible for submitting the scores to the CTG EC team as soon as the game is complete. Communication to be done in Whatsapp created for that group specifically.
- Ball cans will be provided by the home parent. Each parent will have no more than 3 home matches. Each match will need a new ball can for best quality of play.
- Home team is responsible to provide Drinks/Snacks etc to both players. It is just a courtesy, not mandatory.
- Matches can be played early too according to player’s availability. For example, this means you can even play Week 1 and 4 matches in Week 1 itself.
Scoring Rules
- Green dot - each match will have 2 short sets to 4. Set tie breaker to be played at 3-3. Set tiebreak is first to 7 points with a difference of two.
- If players split sets, match tie breaker of 10 points with a difference of two.
- Regular ball - each match will have 2 sets to 6. Set tie breaker to be played at 6-6. Set tiebreak is first to 7 points with a difference of two.
- If players split sets, match tie breaker of 10 points with a difference of two.
- Each match win will be 1 point and loss will be 0 points.
- Forfeited matches - 0 points to both players if the match could not be scheduled at all. If the match was scheduled with mutual agreement and 1 player did not show up, then it's a forfeit by the player that did not show up.
Final/Semi-Final Qualification Rules
- Top 2 from each group except Regular ball Intermediate groups.
- Number of wins will determine the winner. If the number of wins are tied, then the total number of games (not sets) won will determine the standings. Tiebreaker win will count as 1 game.
- For Regular ball intermediate group, only the division winner from each group and best 2nd place finisher will qualify. One 2nd place finisher will be determined across all 3 groups based on the same criteria above.
